The South African Social Security Agency has confirmed the SASSA payment dates for August 2026, providing millions of beneficiaries with clarity on when their social grants will be available.
According to the official schedule shared by the Department of Social Development, payments will begin with the Older Persons Grant on Tuesday, 4 August 2026. Disability Grants will follow on Wednesday, 5 August, while Children’s Grants will be paid from Thursday, 6 August 2026.
Beneficiaries do not have to withdraw their entire grant on the payment date. Once the money has been deposited into an account, it remains available until it is needed.

The Children’s Grants payment date generally covers beneficiaries receiving child-related social assistance, including the Child Support Grant and Foster Child Grant.
SASSA uses a staggered payment system to reduce congestion at retailers, ATMs and other payment points. Older persons are paid first, followed by disability grant recipients and then beneficiaries receiving children’s grants.
Why August Payments Start on the Fourth
SASSA normally aims to begin permanent social grant payments as early as possible each month. However, the agency does not generally schedule payments on the first day of the month, on a Monday, immediately after a public holiday or over a weekend.
Since 1 August 2026 falls on a Saturday and 3 August falls on a Monday, the August payment cycle will begin on Tuesday, 4 August 2026.
The dates form part of the approved 2026–2027 social grant payment calendar, which was finalised after approval from the National Treasury in March 2026.
SASSA Grant Amounts in August 2026
The grant increases introduced in April 2026 will continue to apply during the August payment cycle.
The Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant are currently set at up to R2,400 per month. Older persons aged 75 and above may receive up to R2,420.
The War Veterans Grant stands at R2,420, while the Foster Child Grant is R1,290. The Child Support Grant and Grant-in-Aid are each R580 per month.
The exact amount received may depend on the type of grant, the beneficiary’s age and whether any deductions or individual payment arrangements apply.
Is the R370 SRD Grant Paid on These Dates?
The Social Relief of Distress grant does not follow the same three-day payment schedule as permanent social grants.
Approved SRD beneficiaries are usually assigned individual payment dates after SASSA completes identity, eligibility and bank-account verification. Applicants should therefore check their personal SRD status through the official SASSA SRD platform instead of relying on the Older Persons, Disability or Children’s Grant dates.
A payment date displayed on the SRD portal indicates when SASSA intends to release the money. The time taken for funds to appear may also depend on the beneficiary’s bank.
Important Postbank Card Deadline
August 2026 is also an important month for beneficiaries who are still using SASSA Gold Cards.
Postbank has announced that Gold Card users must replace their cards with Postbank Black Cards before the 31 August 2026 deadline. The replacement is free, and beneficiaries must carry a valid identity document or temporary ID when collecting a new card.
Postbank Black Cards are available at designated collection points in participating retailers, including Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and selected Spar stores.
Beneficiaries have been warned not to pay anyone for a replacement card or hand over their PIN to another person. A legitimate Postbank Black Card should clearly display the Postbank name.
How Beneficiaries Can Access Their Money
Grant recipients can access their payments through their registered bank accounts, Postbank cards, participating retailers, ATMs or approved cash-payment arrangements.
Those withdrawing cash should consider avoiding the first payment morning where possible, as ATMs and retail outlets may experience longer queues. There is no requirement to withdraw all the money immediately after it becomes available.
Beneficiaries should protect their cards, PINs and identity documents. SASSA officials and bank employees should never ask a recipient to disclose a PIN through a phone call, SMS, WhatsApp message or social media post.
What to Do if a Grant Is Not Paid
A beneficiary who does not receive a grant on the confirmed date should first check the account used for payment and ensure that their personal and banking information remains correct.
Payment delays may occur when a grant is under review, when banking details cannot be verified or when SASSA requires updated information from the beneficiary.
SASSA has advised affected recipients to visit their nearest local office for assistance when a scheduled grant is not received. Beneficiaries attending an office should carry their South African identity document and any relevant payment or banking records.
